Who Gets the Praise?

S. "Yet he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make known his mighty power." Psalm 106: 8 (ESV)

O. This passage of scripture (Psalm 106) is a message of thanksgiving to God for all that he has done for the people of Israel. The Psalmist recounts God's deliverance of the people of Israel from their bondage in Egypt, specifically mentioning their victory at the Red Sea. I believe of the truths that God is trying to get through here is that of who won the battle...who gets the credit for the victory.

So many times, we accomplish things that seem to be all about us. We did this or that...we completed this task or project...we were part of a great outreach and did great things. I see the victory at the Red Sea as an opportunity for God to shine. "How did this happen?", someone might ask..."By the might hand of God", should be our reply.

God's work is always to point back to him. Whether it is something small or large, we are to point back to the one who worthy of all praise.

A. What is one thing in my life that can take credit for? I really want my answer to a compliment after a sermon or service to be "All for the glory of God". I must take some practical steps in thoughtful responses when given compliments.

P. May my prayer be the prayer of the psalmist at the close of Psalm 106...
Save us, O Lord our God, and gather us from among the nations,
that we may give thanks to your holy name and glory in your praise.

Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting!
And let all the people say, "Amen!" Praise the Lord!
